Ex-Manchester United defender Gary Neville has stated predicted that Chelsea’s new signing Timo Werner will scored 20 goals in Premier League this season.
The 24-year-old forward has impressed on his Premier League debut, winning a penalty as Chelsea eased past Brighton 3-1 at the Amex Stadium.
Jorginho converted the spot-kick that Germany hitman won, with Reece James blasting a fine strike into the top corner and Kurt Zouma adding the third.
And despite he unable to get scoresheet in his Premier League debut on Monday night, United legend Gary Neville believed former Red Bull Leipzig forward will move well beyond double figures.
The German hitman scored 95 goals across all competitions for Bundesliga club, including 34 in 45 games in all competitions last last season. And many of those goals came with the pacey number nine still finding his feet in football.
‘It all seems a bit too good to be true,’ said Neville on MNF, impressed by Chelsea’ summer business.
‘You think of the goals he’s scored in four years in a top league, he’s 24 years of age. You think about de-risking your signings, that looks like the least risky you can get.
‘He’s tall, he’s quick, scores goals, he has a good mentality. 12 international goals in 31 appearances, not all of those are obviously starts.
‘I will be absolutely amazed if he doesn’t get 20 goals for Chelsea this season if he stays fit,’ he predicted.
‘Particularly with [Mason] Mount around him, [Christian] Pulisic, [Kai] Havertz, [Hakim] Ziyech when he gets fit. Jorginho and [N’Golo] Kante behind them.
‘There are too many good players around him,’ he said. ‘I’d be surprised.’
Werner’s next opportunity to open his Chelsea account will come on Sunday against the defending champions, and the club who tried to sign him, Liverpool.
